Supraśl - The Lowland Climatic and Peloid Therapy Health Resort

Supraśl - The Lowland Climatic and Peloid Therapy Health Resort

Supraśl is an unusually attractive town in the Podlasie region and Knyszyn Forest. Since it was established more than 500 years ago it has witnessed many events which have played an important part in Poland’s history.

it is situated only 208 km from Warsaw’s city centre and 10 km from Białystok, the region’s capital. It has many tranquil places with wooden houses, catholic and orthodox churches and chapels. It is a multicultural place: its inhabitants are of Polish, Belarusian, Russian, Tartar, Jewish and German origin, who profess a variety of different faiths including catholic, orthodox, judaic and protestant. It is also a popular location for film directors and has featured in polish television series such as “Blondynka” [the blonde], “U Pana Boga za piecem” (“Snug as a Bug in a rug”) and “U Pana Boga w ogródku” (“God’s little Garden”).

Supraśl boasts a beautiful monastery which houses the museum of icons – the most modern museum of its kind in Poland – as well as multiple examples of 19th – century architecture. It is also associated with the beautiful and picturesque Supraśl river valley – perfect for kayaking trips, during which one can admire the rich flora and fauna of the Knyszyn Forest.

It is one of the most recently - established polish health resorts and one of two – the other being Augustów – in the Podlasie region. Supraśl is tucked away in the middle of the Knyszyn Forest, whose natural resources contribute to the town’s development as a health resort. It owes its microclimate to the pine forest, whose air is redolent with therapeutic oils; the views are breathtaking and birdsong reverberates all around, thus enabling people to take a rest away from the hustle and bustle of modern life. Time seems to flow more slowly here.

In 2002 Supraśl was granted the status of a lowland,  climatic, peloid therapy health resort. Based on the scientifically proven therapeutic properties of the peloids and the climate, the health resort can specialize in the treatment of the following health problems:

1. respiratory diseases;

2. cardiovascular diseases;

3. orthopaedic diseases and traumas;

4. rheumatologic diseases

The uniqueness of the Supraśl health resort lies in the town being situated in the middle of the largest forest complex in Poland –  the Knyszyn Forest landscape park. The forests that surround Supraśl constitute a therapeutic park with demarcated trails for horse-riding, Nordic-walking and skiing – which support physical therapy.

The Supraśl health resort is fully equipped in terms of its tourist infrastructure. The “Knieja”  Sanatorium, two 3-star hotels –  the “Borowinowy Zdrój” hotel and the “Supraśl” hotel –  which offer spa facilities – as well as four guest houses and hostels, can accommodate up to 500 visitors, who will find excellent conditions for relaxation, including the opportunity to try the regional cuisine. Supraśl also provides a balm for the soul: it is the seat of the Wierszalin Theatre, which is renowned both in Poland and abroad. It is also an attractive town in very practical terms: there are two banks with ATMS, and a modern communication network – fibre-optic connections, mobile network and numerous hot spots –  allowing visitors to keep in touch with friends and families all over the world.
